The BK-G28 is an addition to Baikal’s BK miner series, with a top hash rate of 28Gh/s and power consumption of 1300W. This miner is a unique Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) device. This means the Baikal BK-G28 has an inbuilt ASIC chip typically made for mining a particular cryptocurrency.
But in this case, the miner has access to 8 algorithms that took the world by surprise by the time it was released in October 2018. It is one of the only ASIC miners that work with eight algorithms. Baikal is well known for adding multiple algorithms to their miners to give their customers more mining opportunities, so users love their products.
The BK-G28 comes with the earlier dual fan design in the front, with a simple metal case. This case/covering helps protect the miner from dust and helps maintain a steady mining operation. The size dimension is 300 x 190 x 158mm, and the miner weighs about 5.5kg.
The Baikal BK-G28 works with eight algorithms: X11, Quark, Qubit, Myriad-Groestl, Nist5, Skein, and X11 Gost Groestl.
X11: The X11 is a Proof of Work hash function designed to be ASIC-resistant, but around 2016 it failed this purpose. The algorithm is much more complicated than Bitcoin’s SHA-256, and it works by adding up 11 different hashing algorithms(hence the number 11). There are many X11 minable coins, though most of them have low trading volumes, have no real value, or are inactive. The X11’s most popular coins are Dash(DASH) and MonetaryUnit(MUE).
Qubit: This is another algorithm with the same story. Originally ASIC resistant, it is a Proof of Work mining algorithm, although earlier on CPUs. It’s the most popular and profitable coins are DigiByte and AuroraCoin.
X11 Gost: X11 ordinarily is a combination of 11 different algorithms. One thing differs between X11 and X11 Gost. The X11 Gost is more improved, and it has a unique hash function within the X11 chain called Streebog. Officially called Gost R, which is a Russian standard hash function. One advantage of the X11 Gost algorithm is that it consumes less power. SIBcoin is mine from this algorithm.
Quark: This algorithm is based on a simple one-phase hash function and doesn’t need large RAM amounts. Quark uses 64-bit protection and is well known for its low power consumption. It has about 144 altcoins, but its most popular coin is Quark(QRK).
Nist5: Just like Qubit, Nist5 is a PoW algorithm that was ASIC resistant, and its most profitable coin is Bulwark.
Myriad-Groestl: This is a cryptocurrency hashing algorithm created for and used by Myriad(XMY).
Each algorithm on the BK G-28 has its hash rate, power consumption, and efficiency.
The noise level can be an essential factor to consider, especially when the user wants to mine at home. Baikal miners are known for their low noise levels compared to other ASIC miners. The Baikal BK-G28 has a noise level of 70dB. This noise level is standard as most miners have a noise level of 60 to 80dB. The BK-G28 is an ear-friendly miner and thus is used for mining at home.
The power consumption of a miner can drastically reduce or increase the profitability of miners. First-time miners should consider this carefully, especially those who don’t have free electricity. The BK-G28 consumes about 1300W of power. This power consumption is average and quite impressive as it is expected that miners need lots of energy due to the amount of work they perform.
Profitability and Return on Investment (ROI) of miners are essential for getting an ASIC device. First-time miners/users should bear in mind that certain factors affect the profitability of miners. Factors like electricity cost in the area, e.g., someone mining with free electricity, is bound to see more income/profit. Also, since the Baikal BK-G28 has multiple hashing algorithms, users can enjoy profitability in various coins at a low cost.
