The AvalonMiner 921 is an Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) hardware designed and sold by Canaan Creative. It is an addition to Canaan Creative’s Flagship, The AvalonMiner series. Founded in 2013, Canaan is one of the leading makers of Bitcoin mining ASIC devices. The company also produces custom-designed ASIC microprocessors for its Avalon Flagship brand.
Like its predecessors, AvalonMiner 921 comes with a simple build and an aluminum case that protects the miner from dust. The AvalonMiner has a dimension of 150 x 136 x 370mm and weighs 4.8kg per unit. In appearance, the AvalonMiner 921 has a different design from older models. This miner comes with 7nm Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) chips, ensuring productivity and efficiency. The chipboards have 88 of such chips, giving the miner an impressive computing hash rate of 20Th/s and consumes 1700W of power.
The AvalonMiner 921 is also known as a Reliable Open Miner (ROQ), which comes with 104 x A3210HP 7nm chips. This device produces a hash rate of 20Th/s. By connecting the AvalonMiner Controller (sold separately) to an AvalonMiner USB Converter (AUC3), you can connect up to 5 different miners. To increase profitability, connect up to 20 AvalonMiner 921s, which will give you an accumulated hash rate of 400Th/s. If you control a large installation of AvalonMiners (like in a mining farm), you can get a developed AvalonMiner Management System, which helps you manage thousands of AvalonMiner devices conveniently.
The AvalonMiner consumes 1800W at 25°C with a Power Supply Unit (PSU) efficiency of 220V AC. The device has a power efficiency of 0.089J/Gh/s. The AUC is required for this product and is shipped with the controller. The AUC3 is a 5 pin cable suitable for Avalon A7, A8, A9 series. AvalonMiner has mining pools like Slushpool, AntPool, Poolin, etc., associated with it.
AvalonMiner consumes about 1800W of power, which is true to the official parameters released by Canaan Creative. Energy consumption is a crucial factor that helps increase profitability, and electricity costs should be reduced. People who are still new to mining should consider that ASIC devices' power consumption takes a lot of electrical supply that affects the production cost. The AvalonMiiner’s power consumption is relatively lower than other Terahash miners, which is an added advantage.
Unfortunately, the standard APW3++ PSU doesn’t supply enough power to AvalonMiner 921. To meet the power supply requirements, you need a PSU with at least 1800W output.
Cooling and Heating
The AvalonMiner 921 uses an air-form cooling method with one 14038 fan at the rear. This cooling method allows it to dissipate heat more efficiently and reduce the risk of overheating. This method/feature is an added advantage for a device that works round the clock. The heat absorption is quite different from the AvalonMiner 741 arrangement.
The AvalonMiner 921 has a measured noise level of 60 to 65dB, which is standard. Most miners have a noise level of 60-80dB. This low noise level is attributed to the sole fan attached to the rear for cooling. The miner is almost soundless as the sound/noise level equals that of an air conditioner.
The algorithm of a miner is essential as it determines the top coin and profitability of the miner. The AvalonMiner 921 works with the Secure Hash Function(SHA-256), a cryptographic algorithm used in mining altcoins like Bitcoin. It is used to create public and private keys and addresses and for mining Bitcoin.
The main reason for getting an ASIC device is for profitability and Return on Investment. The AvalonMiner 921 is a profitable miner as the processing power is 20Th/s, and it consumes less power than most miners. But in areas with high electricity costs, the AvalonMiner 921 will take time to bring back Return on Investment (ROI). Getting the AvalonMiner 921 isn’t an unreasonable investment as the top coin is profitable.
